A corner of Ba island
The island’s forest ecosystem is remarkably rich, home to precious timber species and rare endemic wildlife such as long-tailed macaques, the iconic Con Dao black squirrel, wild boar, monitor lizards, and a variety of forest birds.
When visiting the Hon Ba Ranger Station, travelers can venture on foot through pristine mangrove forests, swim in crystal-clear waters, or snorkel with masks and snorkels to marvel at vibrant coral reefs and marine life. Adventurers can also hike to Dinh Tinh Yeu—the 352-meter-high “Peak of Love”—along with nearby summits that offer sweeping panoramic views over Ben Dam Bay and the surrounding islands.
According to legend, when The King planned to seek military support from the French and intended to send Prince Cai as a hostage, Lady Phi Yen tried to dissuade him. Enraged, King accused her of colluding with the opponent and imprisoned her in a cave on the island—giving rise to the name Hon Ba, “the Lady’s Island,” known today.
