Celebration of the 40th anniversary of the recognition of a special National Historic Site

On the evening of April 26, at Hang Duong Con Dao Cemetery, Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Provincial Fatherland Front Committee (BR - VT) solemnly celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Recognition of the Relic Zone Con Dao special national history (April 29, 1979 to April 29, 2019) and received the Class III Labor Medal.
Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, former leaders of the Party, State, former prison of Con Dao, representatives of the leaders of ministries, branches and leaders of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province and numerous officials and soldiers and people from Con Dao district and tourists attended.
During 113 years of existence (1862-1975), in Con Dao Prison, French colonialists and American imperialists imprisoned, deprived tens of thousands of revolutionary soldiers, Vietnamese patriots, turned Con Dao into "earthly hell".
Despite the prison, the brutal suppression of the enemy, the communist soldiers and the Vietnamese patriots were resilient, upholding the temperament "would rather sacrifice and definitely not surrender" after prison. Island into "Revolutionary struggle school". With these special historical values, on April 29, 1979, the Ministry of Culture and Sports issued Decision No. 54 / VHTT.QĐ to recognize the Con Dao Revolutionary Historical Area as one of the relics. Particularly important area of the Country. On May 10, 2012, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 548 / QD-TTg to recognize Con Dao relic as a special National Monument with a total protection area of over 110ha.
During the past 40 years, Con Dao Relic Zone has always been preserved and promoted its value, thereby helping to educate patriotism, heroic struggle history of revolutionary soldiers and patriotic compatriots in the two another fight against colonialism and empire for the people of the whole country. Up to now, there have been relics of over 150 years such as Phu Hai and Phu Son relics, Lord Island houses, etc. In the past 40 years, Con Dao Prison relic area has welcomed over 1.5 million visitors learning, visiting, and studying.
Speaking at the celebration, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh highly appreciated the Party, government and people of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province in preserving historical values for Con Dao prison system. The Vice President hoped that Ba Ria - Vung Tau would continue to promote traditional education activities, strengthen the propagation of the historical significance of the National Monument especially Con Dao Prison to promote patriotic traditions and hearts national pride and self-respect to the young generation and international friends. Creating products that characterize Con Dao brand brings high competitiveness to retain visitors.
At the ceremony, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh awarded the Labor Medal Class III to the Management Board of Con Dao Relic Area for having outstanding achievements in management, conservation, promoting the value of the Zone. Also on this occasion, BR-VT provincial leaders awarded certificates of merit to 12 collectives and 23 individuals for their contributions to Con Dao Area in the past 40 years.
Also in the celebration, Con Dao delegates and people were able to meet and interact with the characters who had sacrificed, attached and had many contributions to the development of the special national relic of Con Dao, such as : Ms. Truong My Hoa - Former Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, former Political Prison of Con Dao; Mr. Hua Phuoc Ninh - former district party committee secretary, chairman of Con Dao district People's Committee, former Con Dao political prisoner; Dr. Le Huu Phuoc - Researcher of Con Dao history;
Besides, the celebration program also has an artistic performance of the music and dance group of BR-VT province, creating a joyful and exciting atmosphere for officials, soldiers and people of Con Dao in celebration of the holiday of the locality in particular and of the nation in general.
Through this activity, we also aim to serve, encourage Con Dao cadres, soldiers, soldiers and people to continue to promote the achieved results, continue to do better the preservation, renovation and promotion of values of Con Dao special national relic area to educate the patriotic tradition, national pride and contribute to the development of Con Dao tourism.
