Facilitating Con Dao’s development

Rapid recovery of tourism
Reporting at the meeting, Mr. Huynh Trung Son, Vice Chairman of Con Dao District People's Committee said that in the first 6 months of the year, Con Dao's economy gradually recovered and grew more than the same period in 2021.

Most socio-economic indicators have increased. Specifically, the value of industrial production is estimated at 108 billion VND, up 3.84%; agricultural production value is estimated at  25 billion VND, up 2.32% over the same period. In particular, the highest increase belongs to the trade-service industry with 9%, equivalent to 1,594 billion VND. Particularly, tourism revenue increased by 11% compared to the same period in 2021.

Mr. Huynh Trung Son, Vice Chairman of Con Dao District People's Committee reported on the implementation of the socio-economic mission in the first 6 months of the year.

Con Dao district has welcomed 265,298 visitors since the beginning of the year, up 6.71% over the same period in 2021, of which international visitors were about 4,699, an increase of 30% compared to the same period in 2021.

Tourism is recovering very well thanks to the operating airlines and planes and gradually increasing the frequency, making travel between Con Dao and the mainland convenient, attracting visitors to Con Dao for a combination of vacation and spiritual tourism after nearly 2 years of interruption due to COVID-19 epidemic.

Regarding development investment, the disbursement rate of public investment capital reached 36.24% of the year plan with more than 123/340 billion VND, it is expected that by the end of June, the disbursement progress will reach more than 48%. For the decentralized basic construction resources for the district as an investor, it is estimated that the disbursement will be more than 31/103 billion VND by the end of June.

In the last 6 months of the year, Con Dao district continues to supervise tourism activities, environmental protection and security at tourist areas and destinations; strengthen inspection and protection of forests; accelerate disbursement of public investment capital; tightly manage land and construction; attract tourists to Con Dao in summer…

Electricity and water infrastructure must go first
Con Dao district is under construction or in the process of implementing many technical infrastructure works for development such as disposal of backlogged waste in Bai Nhat area, passenger ship port, expansion of Ben Dam Port, upgrading airport, build a domestic water plant with a capacity of 10,000m3/day and night, call for investment in a waste treatment plant...

Mr. Huynh Trung Son said that the district has calculated the population and the number of tourists by 2025 will reach about 510,000 people.  In order to ensure the increase in the demand for clean water for the population and tourists in the future, the People's Committee of Con Dao district has submitted to the Provincial People's Committee for consideration and approval of an investment policy to build a domestic water plant with a capacity of 10,000m3/day and night.

In terms of power supply, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Electricity has strengthened 9 additional power units, all of which are in good working order. In addition, according to the roadmap, each year, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Electricity will increase by 2 units until 2025, but only enough to meet about 30% of the demand.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Van Tho highly appreciated the unity in the leadership, direction, and administration of Con Dao district's leaders. The results of socio-economic development indicators have demonstrated the prosperity after the epidemic and the effectiveness and efficiency of the government apparatus. The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized that Con Dao development must be associated with conservation and ensuring national security, so it is necessary to comply with the approved planning. The revised planning tasks must be updated to implement unanimously.

Regarding land, the locality must review and re-statistic the land fund, calculate and advise the Provincial People's Committee to exploit and use it effectively. Regarding tourism products, in order to achieve the level of international tourist resorts, district leaders need to have an overview and learn from similar tourist attractions in the production plan to advise the Provincial People's Committee to attract and call for investment. Con Dao is oriented to the development of high-end tourism, so it is necessary to pay attention to every small detail such as landscapes, roads, signs, bars, and shops... all must be methodically managed and standardized to create a beautiful aesthetic face for tourism. "Important projects being implemented in Con Dao such as garbage disposal, power supply, domestic water reservoirs are extremely urgent, departments, branches, and districts of Con Dao need to accompany, supervise and support immediately within their competence", the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested.
